Words to Ponder

January 3, 2011

One of my favorite quotes is from Cynthia Rylant. I keep the words in mind as I read to an audience whether it is a room full of teachers, a class of students, a child snuggled on my lap…

Read to them. Take their breath away. Read with the same feeling in your throat as when you first see the ocean after driving hours and hours to get there. Close the final page of the book with the same reverence you feel when you kiss your sleeping child at night. Be quiet. Don’t talk the experience to death. Shut up and let these kids feel and think. Teach your children to be moved.

I love this comment! How very true, but then Cynthia Rylant IS one of my favorite authors!

Here’s a quote that reminded me of your initial thoughts on starting this blog:

“There’s something delicious about writing the first words of a story” (blog in your case!!).”You can never quite tell where they’ll take you…mine (yours) began here”.

    Beatrix Potter

(Now we have another way to share our book talk communication!!)

I love that quote also! That reminds me that I need to order the movie about Beatrix Potter. I have to have that in my collection. 🙂
